Taxi mogul Freidman files for bankruptcy on some of his cab companies

New York City's largest owner of taxi medallions, Evgeny “Gene” Freidman, today filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection for 22 companies that collectively own 46 medallions. That represents a small number of the total medallions held by Freidman, a man often described as a billionaire who not only controls some 1,000 medallions but is described as the largest taxi cab operator in the entire United States.
