
More than a year after the Houston City Council passed the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance, the Texas Supreme Court has suspended the controversial law, according to reports.
The ordinance, which extended protections to gay and transgender employees from workplace discrimination, was signed into law in May 2014. Challengers trying to force a repeal referendum submitted a petition to the city later that year, but the city said only a portion of the signatures qualified for consideration.
