​Opponents to Mauna Kea emergency rule consider filing with state court

The state land board has agreed to consider on Aug. 14 a request for a contested case hearing, which seeks to reverse a recently approved emergency rule limiting access to Mauna Kea. University of Hawaii law professor Williamson Chang told PBN Wednesday he is considering filing the case in state court to expedite the process. The Department of Land and Natural Resources has not yet implemented the emergency rule, which was approved by a 5-2 board vote on July 10 and would prohibit camping gear…
