Honolulu Museum of Art sues donor for nearly $1M for selling undocumented art

The Honolulu Museum of Art has sued a donor for $880,000 over a collection of five pieces of Southeast Asian art worth some $1.3 million, alleging that he failed to provide documentation for the objects, which may have been stolen from their countries of origin. Eighty-year-old San Francisco-based art collector Joel Alexander Greene told PBN he denies the claims, and said that all due diligence was completed when a charitable annuity agreement was struck in 2004.
