Jefferson County Attorney Carol Sue Nelson, will step down from that position effective October 1, according to sources within the county administration. She is the first female to hold the position with the county.Nelson has served as the county attorney since June 2013, during a somewhat tumultuous time, as Jefferson County had just filed for bankruptcy, and removed its previous attorney, Jeff Sewell due to allegations of obstructing the county's ongoing negotiations.
