Hawaii becomes first state to sue Takata over its deadly airbags

Hawaii became the first state Friday to sue Takata, the Japanese auto parts maker ordered to recall millions of its airbags because of a deadly defect. Honda Motor, the automaker most affected by the recalls, is also named as a defendant.

The lawsuit, filed in the state's First Circuit Court in Honolulu, accuses the companies of making, supplying, and using airbags they knew to be unsafe. It seeks restitution for all affected car buyers and a $10,000 civil penalty against the companies for each…
