Florida Supreme Court metes out discipline to 4 Tampa area attorneys

The Florida Bar announced that 21 attorneys in the state have been disciplined by the Florida Supreme Court, four of them in the Tampa Bay area.

Of the 21, three were disbarred, one's license was revoked, 12 were suspended and five were publicly reprimanded. One attorney was ordered to pay restitution and five were placed on probation.

Portland gets first joint business master's/law program

Oregonians in search of a joint law/master's of business adminstration degree no longer need to head to Salem or Eugene.

Portland State University and Lewis & Clark Law School will start offering a joint program this fall. The tuition is $68,500.

It'll take four years to complete, shaving one year off the time it would take to complete a law degree (three years) and an MBA (two years). Most students will spend alternating academic years at each school, starting with the first year at Lewis & Clark.

Prominent attorney charged in money laundering scheme

Former Becker & Poliakoff attorney Alan Koslow has been charged for his alleged role in a money laundering scheme, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida announced Thursday.

Co-defendant Susan Mohr was also charged in the alleged scheme.

Koslow, a Hollywood resident, is expected to surrender June 2 to face charges before a judge in Fort Lauderdale. Delray Beach resident Mohr is expected to surrender on May 31, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Philly lawyers issue shocking Baylor sexual assault report

An independent investigation from two Philadelphia lawyers released Thursday found that Baylor University admitted that administrators discouraged reports of sexual assault on campus and even went as far as to retaliate against one accuser.

$250K embezzlement costs former business comptroller a few years

John Kruse of Independence was sentenced to 25 months in federal prison for embezzling more than $247,000 from BCC Merchant Solutions Inc. in North Kansas City.

During the five-year wire fraud scheme, Kruse was employed as the financial comptroller at BCC, a financial services firm that helps merchants with payment card solutions, e-commerce solutions and marketing.
