New law could put managers, directors on the hook for wage theft

A provision in a California Senate bill could put individuals on the hook for wage and hour infractions if they are found to be acting "on behalf" of an employer.

Under the new law, individuals including an "owner, director, officer, or managing agent of the employer" can be held liable for wage theft, and compelled to pay penalties on behalf of employers.
