Case of the missing Chinese dinosaur fossils gets Canadian businessman in Arizona hot water

A Canadian man has been sentenced to five years probation and fined $25,000 for smuggling dinosaur fossils and fossil eggs out of China and trying to illegally sell them at an Arizona gem and mineral show.

Jun Yang, 36, of British Columbia, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Cindy Jorgenson in Phoenix.

He previously pleaded guilty to smuggling charges. He was accused of trying to sell a $15,000 Psittacosaurus fossil and 16 Hadrosaur egg fossils priced at $450 each at an Arizona gem show

Kansas City law firm looks to acquire Houston firm's IP practice

Kansas City-based Polsinelli PC is in talks to acquire the intellectual property practice of a Houston law firm, Novak Druce Connolly Bove + Quigg LLP, which would give it one of the largest practices of its kind in the nation.

Polsinelli shareholders approved the acquisition on Feb. 18, and the parties are working through the deal's final details.

Owner of Fremont semiconductor company faces jail time for wage theft

Constante Yanos is owed over $3,600 in unpaid wages from i2A Technologies, a Fremont semiconductor company, according to court documents.

If he ever gets that money, the 74-year-old Yanos knows exactly how he'd use it -- medicine and dental care.

"All my teeth are bleeding," he said. "And I can't go to any dentist because they're so expensive."

Yanos, a former machine operator, is one of some 20 workers owed more than $260,000 by i2A, according to court documents filed by the United States Department...

Dobbs Tire & Auto Centers Inc. CEO David Dobbs didn't punch his sister, Laura Killoren, last year, his lawyer said in a court filing Wednesday.

New law could put managers, directors on the hook for wage theft

A provision in a California Senate bill could put individuals on the hook for wage and hour infractions if they are found to be acting "on behalf" of an employer.

Under the new law, individuals including an "owner, director, officer, or managing agent of the employer" can be held liable for wage theft, and compelled to pay penalties on behalf of employers.

Boulder restaurateur battles culinary giant Wolfgang Puck in trademark tiff

Two restaurateurs -- one from Boulder and the other a culinary giant -- are battling over the use of a simple restaurant name.

Kimbal Musk, owner of Boulder-based The Kitchen, and younger brother of entrepreneur Elon Musk, is fighting with Wolfgang Puck over the restaurant name The Kitchen.

Former Bham attorney nominated to 11th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals

President Barack Obama on Thursday announced the nomination of Judge Abdul Kallon to serve on the 11th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in Atlanta.
