The Solar Impulse 2 solar-powered aircraft began its flight over the Hawaiian Islands Thursday as pilot André Borschberg passed 100 hours in the air, breaking all distance and duration world records for solar aviation as well as the record for the longest solo flight previously held by Steve Fossett for his flight in 2006.
As of Thursday afternoon, the Solar Impulse 2 had fewer than 500 miles left to fly before its planned landing on Oahu early Friday morning.
