EXCLUSIVE: Washington state's new marine tourism fees drive super yacht owners out to sea

The Marine Tourism Bill, which, introduced more than six years ago and passed into Washington state law last year, has been getting mixed reviews. That includes a big thumbs down from some owners of super yachts.

The law allows yachts registered as an LLC – as most super yachts are – to stay in Washington waters 180 days before a 10 percent tax on the value of the boat is imposed by the state of Washington.

The first 60 days are free, and on day 61, various fees start getting assessed and cruising…
