DBJ's Year in Review: Americans hate their TV providers — and a couple airlines, too, report finds

Cable, phone and Internet providers are among the most disliked companies by customers, with Comcast being tied for second-to-last among all major companies for consumer satisfaction. That's according to the American Consumer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) year-end report, which analyzed how customers rated industries and companies from the fourth quarter of 2014 to the end of Q3 2015. They will be allowed to sue under pay discrimination laws if they can prove a man at the same job in the same business makes more. Cisco Systems victorious in multimillion dollar patent dispute

Cisco Systems has won a patent dispute that reversed a $64 million judgment against the San Jose-based networking giant. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit stated that Cisco was not liable for directly infringing on a patent held by Commil USA LLC for WiFi technology, according to Reuters. The suit spent eight years in litigation and included a stop at the U.S. Supreme Court in May, where the case was sent back to the Federal Circuit. The Recorder initially reported the judgment…

St. Louis bar asks judge to block city’s smoking ban

A south St. Louis bar is asking a circuit court judge to block the city’s smoking ban. Herbert Krischke’s The Trophy Room, 5099 Arsenal St., and other bars were granted a five-year exemption from the city’s smoking ban, which went into effect in 2011. But those exemptions expire Jan. 1, 2016. Krischke brought suit Dec. 24 against the city, claiming the ban is unconstitutional and that it unfairly grants exemptions to casinos. Mayor-elect Jim Strickland is eliminating 10 city positions in order to fund the salary increases for his new C-Suite. Organizer of TBD Fest hit with lawsuit over loan

For the second year in a row, a co-founder of the summertime TBD Fest has drawn complaints of unpaid bills. Katrina Arnaud, a notary public with an office in East Sacramento, filed suit Dec. 9 in Sacramento Superior Court over a personal loan she made to Clay Nutting, co-founder of the West Sacramento music and art festival.
