Judge: Duke Energy’s coal-ash fine largest ever for a criminal case in N.C. federal courts

U.S. District Judge Malcolm Howard sentenced Duke Energy (NYSE:DUK) on Thursday for environmental violations that included the Dan River coal-ash spill, saying the $102 million in fines and reparation was the largest financial penalty he could find record in any N.C. federal criminal case.
