Hawaii Medical Service Association blames $57M Q1 loss on Affordable Care Act
The Hawaii Medical Service Association reported a first-quarter loss of $57.2 million, compared to a loss of $30 million in the first quarter of 2014.
The insurer blamed the loss on more than $62 million in fees associated with the Affordable Care Act, which must be recorded in the first quarter.
HMSA collected $727.3 million in premiums from 726,889 members for the first quarter, compared to $707.9 million in the first quarter of 2014, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported.
