Atlanta's Sally Yates was confirmed May 13 at deputy attorney general, the No. 2 spot at the U.S. Justice Department.
The Senate vote was 84-12. Both of Georgia's senators, Johnny Isakson and David Perdue, voted for Yates.
Yates served until earlier this year as U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Georgia in Atlanta, a post she'd held since 2010. President Barack Obama nominated her for the new post in December.
