Hawaii's retail trade industry reported sales of $18.9 billion in 2012, according to data recently released by the U.S. Census.
The data released late last month was from the 2012 Economic Census, which provides a detailed look at the economy every five years.
As of 2012, there were 4,643 retail establishments with more than 68,360 employees in Hawaii and a total annual payroll of $1.8 billion.
Food and beverage and grocery stores accounted for more than $6 billion in sales when combined. More…
