Financial Women's scholarship lunch draws plenty of cash, star power

The Financial Women of San Francisco said it raised a record amount for scholarships at its annual Financial Woman of the Year lunch that recognized KMPG's Debbie Messemer.

The event raised $337,500 for the organization's scholarship fund that has provided more than $2 million in educational assistance over the past 30 years.

This year's event drew 700 supporters, prompting the group to find a bigger venue for the lunch.

Florida Supreme Court disciplines 6 Tampa Bay attorneys

Twenty-two attorneys in the state have been disciplined by the Florida Supreme Court, including six in the Tampa Bay region.

Of the 22 lawyers statewide, two were disbarred, four had their licenses revoked, 12 were suspended, three were publicly reprimanded and one was sentenced to jail time, The Florida Bar said. Attorneys: Don't bank on relief from overtime regs

Alabama joined more than 20 other states last week in a fight against changes to overtime policies put forth by the Obama administration, and the rule has drawn criticism from policy experts and business owners alike, claiming certain industries and positions will suffer more than others.

The new rule raises the mandatory threshold for paying overtime from $23,660 to $47,476 for many salaried employees.

Faegre Baker Daniels has named Tom Froehle, who led the Indianapolis firm that merged with Faegre & Benson four years ago, as its next managing partner.

Well-known Sacramento employment attorney joining Kennaday Leavitt

Kennaday Leavitt is getting a new name on the door: Veteran employment attorney Jeffery Owensby is joining the firm as an equity partner.

Owensby, 59, officially joins the health care and employment practice on Oct 1. He is leaving Rediger, McHugh & Owensby, where he worked for eight years but was not an equity partner.

Gallina to close Rancho Cordova office, expand into Roseville headquarters

Accounting firm Gallina LLP will be closing its Rancho Cordova office and moving those employees to its headquarters office in Roseville.

The firm now has 12 offices in California, Utah, Washington and Nevada. In December, it will move all 45 of its Rancho Cordova employees to its Highland Pointe office in Roseville. That will give the headquarters office a total of 140 employees, said Ashley Harris, marketing coordinator with Gallina.

When millennials hop on LinkedIn to search for their next job, Denver is among the top cities they're targeting.
